Where are the tech jobs in Europe? London has almost as many as the next four cities together

In a handful of cities, and London most of all. On international companies' own careers pages, London has 2,149 open tech jobs, about as many as Berlin, Paris, Munich and Warsaw together (2,242). By country, the UK has a quarter of Europe's tech ads and Germany a sixth. Only 3.2% say remote in the line that says where the job is.

I moved to Stockholm seven years ago, and I'm looking for my next role now. When I set up my own AI job search, the first question was where to point it. Stockholm, obviously, but where else? Lists of the best cities in Europe for tech jobs often rank salaries, rent and quality of life. I wanted to know where the jobs actually are, so we counted the tech ads on international companies' own careers pages and read the city off each one.
The best cities in Europe for tech jobs, by open ads
Tech jobs in London make up 26% of all the ads here that name a city. Berlin comes second with 9.7% and Paris third with 7.9%, and after that the numbers drop quickly. Tech jobs in Amsterdam come to 297, fewer than in Munich or Warsaw. From Madrid down to Vilnius, eight cities have between 100 and 200 open tech ads each.
Data: 321,313 open job ads on the careers boards of 16,820 companies, on hiring systems like Greenhouse, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, BambooHR, Teamtailor, Workday, Personio, Workable and Lever, read on 23 and 24 September 2026. 59,512 of them are tech ads (software engineering, AI and machine learning, data, product management and design titles), 11,750 of those in Europe. A city is read from the ad's location line, and 8,270 of the European ads name one of the cities counted. The shares are of those 8,270.

The UK and Germany together have more than four in ten of Europe's tech ads. Poland comes third, just ahead of Spain and France. Sweden, where I live, has 3.6%.

Where the second cities stand
In the UK, London is most of the market. It has 2,149 of the country's 2,986 tech ads, or 72%. Germany is spread much wider. Berlin has 42% of the German ads, and Munich follows with 459, more than Amsterdam or Dublin. Hamburg adds another 144.
Poland and Spain have two strong cities each. Warsaw has 334 of Poland's 900 tech ads and Krakow 154. In Spain, Barcelona is ahead of the capital, with 284 against Madrid's 193. Cambridge is the surprise of the list. With 137 ads it has as many as Zurich and more than Manchester (83), and more than one in five of its engineering ads are for AI roles, a share close to Zurich's and Madrid's.

Remote is rare in the location line
If you hoped to skip the question of where by searching for remote jobs, the location line won't help much. Fewer than one European tech ad in thirty says remote there. An ad may still offer remote or hybrid work in its text, so a job in Berlin could be open to you from Stockholm, but you'll only find out by reading it.

How to point a tech job search in Europe
- Search more than one city. Outside London, even the second city on this list has fewer than 800 open tech ads. If you'd move, add the next two or three cities you'd live in.
- Search a country where the jobs are spread out. Germany, Poland and Spain each have more than one city worth covering, so a search on the whole country finds the ones a single city misses.
- Search remote as its own search, and don't rely on the location line to find it. An ad that offers remote may say so only in its text.
- Check what the ad asks for before you plan a move. Jobs in Europe for English speakers depend on the country and the company, and the location line won't tell you.
